De qué se trata?
Alexia Tarabotti, una joven excéntrica considerada una solterona, es atacada por un vampiro durante un baile. Las cosas se complican cuando accidentalmente mata al vampiro al tratar de defenderse. Alexia no es simplemente una solterona, es una "desalmada", un ser preternatural con la habilidad de contrarrestar los poderes de vampiros y werevolves.
Pronto interviene el BUR, la agencia encargada de los asuntos sobrenaturales. Y es Lord Maccon, un atractivo aunque irascible werewolf quien llevará a cabo la investigación. Pero no es el único interesado en resolver el misterio. Puntos a favor:
Una era victoriana alternativa llena de seres sobrenaturales e inventos steampunk. Personajes geniales y queribles. Un sentido del humor sutil, digno de Jane Austen y una reina Victoria que sabe poner los puntos sobre las íes.

Libro de quejas:
Desafortunadamente, nuestra heroína cuenta con una familia detestable, realmente detestable. Qué horror!!!

En resumen:
Una historia de misterio en una era victoriana alternativa, con un humor sutil y elegante protagonizada por vampiros,  werewolves y una damisela de armas tomar.

De qué se trata?
Jace Valchek, profiler del FBI es abducida a una dimensión paralela donde la humanidad es una especie en vías de extinción para resolver una serie de macabros asesinatos cometidos por un humano. Las víctimas pertenecen a las especies dominantes: vampiros y licántropos, especies responsables del exterminio humano.
Jace se ve atrapada en un mundo hostil, trabajando para sus enemigos naturales a cambio de su propia vida y de la remota posibilidad de regresar a su propia dimensión.


Puntos a favor:
Jace Valchek es una luchadora. No se rinde fácilmente ni permite que la conviertan en víctima. El método de investigación es concreto y sus conocimientos como profiler aportan cierto profesionalismo. Tanaka, el licántropo japonés, es un personaje complejo e interesante. Aristotle Stoker no es un simple villano, es un hombre con una  misión: venganza. La interacción entre Stoker y Jace es compleja e intensa.


Libro de quejas:
El mundo alternativo no está firmemente construido y sufre de inconsistencias, elementos que no encajan entre sí.  Cuando un lector necesita hacer un  esfuerzo consciente para creer el planteo de un autor, es que algo no funciona.
En cuanto al protagonista vampiro y potencial galán, lo encuentro anodino y olvidable.


En resumen:
Un relato de suspenso bien llevado. Una atmósfera opresiva y melancólica que recuerda por momentos al mundo de Benighted creado por Kit Whitfield. Y una protagonista atrapada en una dimensión hostil y ajena.

De qué se trata?
Rhiannon Murphy, bartender y necromancer se ve en la obligación de ayudar a un poderoso vampiro, apodado Disco, a investigar las misteriosas desapariciones de varios vampiros de la ciudad. El elemento que relaciona a los desaparecidos es la venta de su propia sangre, considerada una droga de elite.  Infiltrándose en el círculo de clientes e invocando a los espíritus de los vampiros muertos por segunda vez logrará descifrar este enigma. Pero durante el proceso despierta el interés de otros seres sobrenaturales y sólo su afiliación a la familia de Disco la mantiene relativamente a salvo.


Puntos a favor:
La profundidad del personaje de Rhiannon, la convierte en algo creíble. La interacción entre ella y Disco carece de histeriqueos innecesarios. El vampiro no es excesivamente glamoroso ni condescendiente. Y el método de investigación es concreto. No van de un lado a otro probando suerte...


Libro de quejas:
Para empezar, un personaje llamado Disco es poco serio y distrae bastante. Es como tener un vampiro llamado Reggaeton.
Para continuar, la subtrama de la antigua amante de Disco y el favor que éste le debe a un demonio no aporta
realmente a la historia principal y sólo sirve para insertar un final que parece escrito por otro autor que casualmente encontró el manuscrito...


En resumen:
Una historia interesante, bien contada. Con un toque de romance sin histeriqueos. Un mundo sobrenatural bien definido, que incluye el orígen de los vampiros.
Un consejo: no leas el último capítulo, consideralo opcional o un final alternativo.

My Personal Review:
Mientras Kita trata de adaptarse a su nueva situación, se ve envuelta en un juego de intrigas dentro de la comunidad vampira. El líder de la ciudad pretende convertirla en su acompañante, arrebatándola de la protección de su creador. La aparición de una eminente figura de la política vampira, conocida por su "colección" de seres inusuales complica las cosas. No solo se fija en Kita, también amenaza el status quo de Haven.

Puntos a favor:
Los personajes poseen mayor profundidad que en el libro anterior. Ahora los conocemos mejor y podemos apreciar detalles de su personalidad. Mayor protagonismo de los vampiros.

Libro de quejas:
Nuevamente tenemos un desfile de villanos de variadas razas mágicas, incluyendo un necromancer, un skinwalker y varias facciones de vampiros. Afortunadamente, la resolución del misterio despeja cualquier duda con respecto a quien es quien y cuales eran sus intenciones.

En resumen:
Un historia de intriga política, crímenes y misterio protagonizada por seres sobrenaturales. Ideal para adeptos al género Urban Fantasy.

My Personal Review:
Kita no es la típica heroína. Es una chica que huye de su pasado y de unas responsabilidades que considera excesivas. Nombrada sucesora de su clan de shifters, siente que está en desventaja con respecto a sus rivales. Kita es la única que no puede transformarse en un gran felino, solamente en un gato doméstico.

El azar la lleva a la ciudad de Haven, donde todo empeora rápidamente. Unos shifters cazadores pretenden llevarla ante la justicia, acusada de crear un shifter asesino. Un vampiro la convierte accidentalmente, robándole una parte  importante de sí misma y una aprendiz de mago la persigue para escribir una tesis sobre la conversión de Kita.
Pero su mayor problema es que tiene un tiempo límite para encontrar al asesino y demostrar su propia inocencia, si quiere evitar ser condenada a muerte.

Puntos a favor:
Bien narrado. Personajes interesantes y villanos malvados. La protagonista no es un cliché andante.

Libro de quejas:
Exceso de sospechosos y villanos. Poca descripción de uno de los protagonistas masculinos, el vampiro que la convirtió. Falta de método para buscar al asesino.

En resumen:
Para ser un primer libro, es bastante digno. Un relato atrapante con un ritmo ágil y un  humor sutil.

Marketing manager Katherine "Kitty" Katt steps into the middle of what appears to be a domestic dispute turned ugly. Though Kitty should probably run away, she springs into action to take the monster down.

In the middle of the chaos a handsome hunk named Jeff Martini appears, sent by the "agency" to perform crowd control. He's Kitty's kind of guy, no matter what planet he's from. And from now on, for Kitty, things are going to be sexy, dangerous, wild, and out of this world.


My Personal Review:
Una comedia romántica con elementos de ciencia ficción. Kitty es una chica común  y corriente que se ve envuelta en una situación digna de Hombres de Negro y termina siendo reclutada por la “agencia”. Pero las cosas no son lo que parecen y mientras trata de descubrir el secreto de los Alfa Centauri y salvar al mundo de una invasión de parásitos extraterrestres, conocerá la verdad acerca de su propia familia.
En resumen, una historia romántica y divertida con final feliz.

Puntos a favor:
La protagonista (gracias a Dios) no es estúpida, como la mayoría de las heroínas de comedias románticas y Chick- lit y tampoco es histérica. Es una chica que sabe lo que quiere, sabe cómo enfrentar situaciones y tiene mucha intuición.

Libro de quejas:
La resolución de algunas escenas de acción resultó un poco naïf.

My Personal Review:
Este libro me sorprendió positivamente. Cuando leí la reseña de la contratapa- transcripta en el texto de arriba- me pareció interesante. Sin embargo, muchas veces nos encontramos con libros que prometen pero no cumplen. Afortunadamente, en este caso, realmente superó mis expectativas.

Bien narrada, con un trasfondo sobrenatural bien construido, una trama atrapante y una pizca de romance para condimentar la historia.  En resumen,  S.L. Wright encontró la receta perfecta para esta nueva serie de Urban Fantasy.

Ya está en camino el segundo libro Demon Revelation. La fecha estimada es a fin de año.
